In Shimla: The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) confirmed that monsoon caused a total of 109 deaths between June 20 and July 16, 2025, in Himachal Pradesh. Of these, 64 people lost their lives in rain-related incidents, while 45 died in road accidents, underlining the extensive human toll of this year’s monsoon fury.
According to the SEOC morning report issued on July 17, 2025, 226 roads, including National Highway 707 near Uttari, remain blocked, mostly due to landslides and heavy rainfall.
Moreover, 52 Distribution Transformer Regions (DTRs) and 137 water supply schemes have been affected in different districts of Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, and Sirmaur.
The data assembled by SEOC stated that a rain-related death occurred in various events like landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, electrocution, snake bites, and falls from steep slopes. The maximum affected districts for rain-related deaths are Mandi and Kangra with 16 each, followed by Hamirpur with 8, Kullu with 4, and Chamba with 3.

Besides 45 road accident deaths reported in the state, there was the highest tolling from Kullu and Solan (7 each), Chamba (6), and several from Shimla, Kangra, Kinnaur, and Mandi districts.
The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) stated that an extensive damage was wrought upon public infrastructure and private property in Himachal Pradesh, with losses being estimated to be around ₹883 crore. Further, 1,228 cattle and over 21,500 poultry birds have died since the advent of the monsoon season.

The state government, therefore, began round-the-clock monitoring through the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) and is coordinating with all district administrations to ensure swift response and restoration activities. Relief is being given, including compensation to the affected families.
Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant as weather alerts for heavy rainfall remain in effect across several regions of the state.
Earlier, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that a central team will soon visit the state to assess the impact of recent cloudbursts and flash floods.
During a meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, CM Sukhu informed him that the state had already suffered damages worth nearly ₹1,000 crore, even though the monsoon season had only just begun.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the disaster had resulted in the loss of precious lives and caused significant damage to key infrastructure, including roads, bridges, government buildings, irrigation channels, water supply systems, and electricity networks. He requested financial assistance from the Central Government for relief and rehabilitation work.
CM Sukhu also pointed out that natural disasters have become increasingly frequent since 2023, and the state has incurred cumulative losses of around ₹21,000 crore over the past three years.
